61 Contractors Arrested in Nassau Sting Operation

Nassau County officials strive to punish home improvement contractors that attempt to take advantage of victims still rebuilding from Sandy. CBS is reporting that Nassau County arrested 61 unlicensed home contractors in a sting operation. Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano released a statement, “Nassau County will not tolerate those who attempt to scam our residents and prey on Hurricane Sandy victims.” The sting operation arose once the county received over 100 complaints. The suspected contractors were unlicensed, uninsured, and would disappear after taking deposits. County Consumer Affairs Commissioner Madalyn Farley recalls a contractor doing “a little bit of work” and then moving on, while another contractor “took $80,000 and never completed the repairs.”
