National Flood Maps in Need of Update?

News has recently surfaced that national flood maps may be out of date, leaving Americans vulnerable to flooding without even being aware of it. In a joint article between the Huffington Post and WNYC Radio, new data suggests that many of the government’s flood maps date from the 1970’s & 1980’s and have not been updated since. As we saw during Hurricane Sandy, some people who were not considered to be in flood zones still had considerable damage done to their homes. The Huffington Post & WNYC Radio suggest that this was a result of outdated flood maps that are in dire need of updating.
